Minister Proposes Reappointment of Chairperson of Canada Development Investment Corporation
November 3rd, 2005
On October the 20th, Ralph Goodale, the Canadian Minister of Finance proposed the reappointment of Donald McQueen Shaver as Chairperson of the Canada Development Investment Corporation. The proposed reappointment will be referred to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance for review.
Dr. Shaver, a native of Cambridge, Ontario, has served as Chairperson of the Canada Development Investment Corporation since 1995. He is founder and past president of Shaver Poultry Breeding Farms Limited, which distributed its products in 94 countries worldwide. An Officer of the Order of Canada, Dr. Shaver has been active in his community, serving as a Director of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Board and the Board of Governors of the University of Guelph, and as Council Chairman of the Developing Countries Farm Radio Network. Dr. Shaver, who served overseas as a member of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps from 1941–45, was an Honorary Colonel of the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada from 1987 to 1990.
The Canada Development Investment Corporation was established in 1982 to manage Crown corporations and investments assigned to it, and to privatise its holdings when appropriate. In January 1995 the Government completed an assessment of the Corporation’s future role. Since then the Corporation has been winding down its operations by divesting its remaining assets in an orderly fashion, and has reduced its operating costs to a minimum.
