21st WSBI World Congress proposes array of high level speakers

The 21st WSBI World Congress that will be held from 20 to 22 September 2006 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will propose an array of high level speakers, such as Pascal Lamy, director general of the World Trade Organisation, Hamish McRae, economist and futurist, Charles Dallara, managing director of the Institute of International Finance.

All presentations and debates will concentrate on the theme “Savings Banks: the retail gateway to a global market – Driving sustainable development”.
The WSBI World Congress will provide a platform for exchanging views, opinions and experiences on retail banking, globalisation and corporate social commitment.

Dr. Holger Berndt, President of the World Savings Banks Institute, declared: “The WSBI World Congress in Kuala Lumpur will further evidence that proximity banking has a key role to play in our increasingly globalised world. Proximity banking is the ideal channel to bring the benefits of globalisation to all retail customers.”

Registration is now open and the organisers welcome all banking professionals from WSBI savings banks or like-minded retail banks, national savings banks associations or savings banks foundations.

The WSBI World Congress is also open to savings banks’ professional partners and experts of retail banking markets, as well as policymakers and academics.
