ESET NOD32 Antivirus for Microsoft Exchange
August 14th, 2007
ESET announced release of ESET NOD32 Antivirus for Microsoft Exchange. Version 2.71 provides full Microsoft Exchange 2007 support and includes changes to the product architecture aimed at increase of its performance.
ESET NOD32 Antivirus for Microsoft Exchange provides on-line scanning of email in the Microsoft Exchange Server environment. The 64-bit version now has the capability to run as an external scanning engine.
This improvement to the architecture, which allows the ESET ThreatSense engine to run inside the ESET Control Centre independently of the MS Exchange Server, enhances scanning stability in certain server environments. In addition, enhancements have been made to the configuration and scheduling of Background Scans.
In Version 2.71, the user can configure the Background Scans to run only on messages received within a certain time period, for example in the last week or month and schedule the Background scan to run only during a specific time frame such as non-business hours when the server load is lower.
“Typically the MS Exchange Server executes Background Scans whenever the server load is on low levels.
However, if it chooses to run the antivirus scan on all messages in the store this can cause higher server loads for the duration of the scan.” says Paul Brook Managing Director of ESET UK.
“Enabling administrators to configure and schedule the scan around the needs of the organisation, not when the software deems it so, will help to control server loads even more.”
Other enhancements include the ability to execute rules based on the mailbox name and the log file now includes additional performance information, which can then be used to optimise the configuration.
ESET NOD32 Antivirus for Microsoft Exchange version 2.71 is available now and is a free upgrade for existing users. The installer covers all Microsoft Exchange versions supported.
When installing onto MS Exchange 5.5, 2000 and 2003, 32-bit components are installed and a 64-bit components are installed for MS Exchange 2007.
