Industry welcomes new housing minister

January 30th, 2008

The BPF has welcomed new housing minister, Caroline Flint, who has replaced Yvette Cooper.

The work and pensions minister moves to CLG as Cooper has replaced Andy Burnham as chief secretary at the Treasury. It is part of a wide-ranging Cabinet reshuffle unveiled this afternoon in the wake of Peter Hain’s resignation.

Liz Peace, chief executive of the BPF, said it was disappointing to see Cooper go at such an important time for the housing industry: "We are sorry to see Yvette Cooper move on at such a crucial time for the industry.

"She has shown a great willingness to work with the industry and we hope the two major bills going through Parliament will not be affected.

"Her experience in dealing with communities will however, prove an invaluable insight for the Treasury. Caroline Flint has a varied background which has taken in many areas of policy, and we very much look forward to working with her."
